About us

Wycliffe Bible Translators was founded in 1942 by missionary Cameron Townsend. One day he was deeply moved by the words of a local American Indian who asked for a Bible in his own language. When Townsend told him that there wasn’t a Bible in that language, the local asked:
‘If your God is so great, why doesn’t He speak my language?’

After this, Cameron Townsend decided to dedicate his entire life to the task of making the God’s Word accessible to all peoples in their mother tongue

The goal of the mission - to glorify God and, together with the Church in Russia, to carry out the mission’s charge: to distribute the Good News through the translation of the Bible. We want as many people as possible to receive the Word of Life in their mother tongue.

Our missionaries work in Asia and Africa in the following areas:

  • Bible Translation
  • Literacy Training for the local population
  • Scripture Use - Helping in the distribution and study of the Scriptures
  • Linguistic research

   Wycliffe Russia:

  • Prepares missionaries and directs them to training in linguistics
  • Directs missionaries to fields of service
  • Supports communication between missionaries and their churches
  • Finds teachers for children of missionaries
  • Represents the ministry of Bible translation to churches, organizations and the community

Join us through prayers and/or financial gifts, or be sent personally to the mission field. Imagine a world where everyone reads the Bible in his or her mother tongue... Also imagine, that you have contributed to this work. "and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."
